Crews began working this week on the first new turf football field for Knox County high schools.
Contractors started moving 160 truck-loads of dirt at Powell High School last week. In December, Pilot Flying J and the Haslam Family pledged $10 million for new synthetic turf fields at all 13 high schools in the district.
“We really feel like we are [ahead of schedule],” said Will Ferguson, a contractor on the project. “It's been a great start, weather has corporate a lot, yeah, feels like we are a little bit ahead of schedule.”
The crew at Powell will also install the fields at three other schools, including Fulton High School. That work begins next week.Back to In the Press
